This is a blog from the great minds of Lee & Natalie. In this blog we will share about whatever we want. We, from time to time, will share some of our art, art we like, adventures we have taken and so on and so forth. Who knows what you may read in its entries. It is simply an inside look into the what goes on in our awesome life.
Tainted Art

The Book Of Eli…
On MLK Day Natalie and I went to go see “The Book Of Eli“. It was a great movie. We both really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, all I can not really tell you about it with out giving a lot of it away. There is a pretty good twist. I can tell you that its post apocalyptic-ish. It is a bit Mad Max in the good ways. I recommend you check it out.

Movie Review: Julie & Julia
Passion. Ambition. Butter. Do you have what it takes?
This movie was so endearing! Props to both actresses for their touching portrayals of two women linked through the art of cooking.
While the plot was fairly simple, the movie was very entertaining. It begins with Julie, who is thirty years old and struggling to find something to make her life meaningful. She decides to write a blog, making each recipe in Julia Child’s Mastering the Art of French Cooking during one year.

The story switches over to Julia Child’s life, beginning in Paris in the 1940’s. The movie moves back and forth between each woman’s life, culminating with the publishing of Julia’s French cookbook and Julie’s completion of the last recipe.

After watching this movie, I felt inspired to make better meals and also to read Julia Child’s biography. Overall, I recommend this movie. I give it a four and a half out of five stars.
The New Scrubs…
Scrubs premiered the new season on ABC last night. I personally was not too impressed. The first episode was semi-funny and the second was a heart warming episode. I miss the humor of the world’s tallest doctor. I must say that Courtney Cox may turn out ok in the show but the new interns annoy me just as much as they annoy JD. So we will see how this season turns out but I am not too stoked on it so far.
By the way Dr. Jan Itor got fired.
Book Review: The Fountainhead
I just (*finally*) finished reading The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand. This book is crazy. I am still processing it - I don’t think I’ll ever be able to put it into a quick summary. I suppose one of the main ideas is that man’s ego is the “fountainhead” of human progress. It is a harsh criticism of society and social constructs, turning the head of what is deemed “righteous”.
Quotes:
“To say ‘I Love You’, one must first know how to say ‘I’.”
“The man who attempts to live for others is a dependent. He is a parasite in motive and makes parasites of those he serves. The relationship produces nothing but mutual corruption. It is impossible in concept. The nearest approach to it in reality — the man who lives to serve others — is the slave. If physical slavery is repulsive, how much more repulsive is the concept of servility of the spirit. The conquered slave has a vestige of honor. He has the merit of having resisted and of considering his condition evil. But the man who enslaves himself voluntarily in the name of love is the basest of creatures. He degrades the dignity of man, and he degrades the conception of love.”
“I take the only desire one can really permit oneself. Freedom, Alvah, freedom.”
“You call that freedom?”
“To ask nothing. To expect nothing. To depend on nothing.”

Restaurant Reviews…La Gran Tapa & BareBack Grill
Last night we checked out 2 happy hours downtown: La Gran Tapa and BareBack Grill.
La Gran Tapa is a Spanish restaurant featuring classic dishes. When we went it was very empty, but the tapas we tried were great. Our favorite was the Tortilla Espanola. We also had the Sicilian Tomato Salad. I give the Sangria a 6 out of 10.
Details: Happy Hour 4:30-7:00pm Tues-Fri
$2 beer/sangria
$2 tapas
Overall Rating: 6 out of 10 - great for an intimate gathering of friend on a weeknight

BareBack Grill is a New Zealand themed bar and grill with one location downtown and one in PB. We decided to go there after a man on the street gave us a card for their happy hour specials. Thursday night is Reggae Night, which we were put off by at first, but it ended up being bearable. We ordered the appetizer special, which was a combo platter with fries, onion rings, chili, a mini burger, and chicken skewers for $8. Our favorite was the mini burger. I tried the Red Stripe, the beer on special, and Lee had a Karl Strauss Hef.
Details: Each night has its own themed happy hour
Thursday nights are Reggae nights with $2 Jamaican-themed drinks
Overall Rating: 7 out of 10 - great burgers and lively atmosphere
(Also be sure to check out the PB location. It is less bar, more burger joint)

In the good ole AZ
The past weekend Natalie and I drove out to Arizona. Well, when I say we I mean she did all the driving but I offered. We went out there for her Dad’s big Five-Oh birthday party. It was a very nice dinner had with friends of the family.

Then as a family we all went out to see the new James Bond flick. (The movie was ok. I left the theater with some questions, then came up with many more the next day. Its a good action flick but I miss the “Bond, James Bond” part of them). On Sunday we had a full day. First we went to Church, Then to Cabela’s for the guys and dress shopping for the girls. We had a dinner all together. And finally Natalie and I drove off into the sunset… Literally. We got to SD around 10 and were both extremely exhausted. But it was a good trip also one of the rare times I got to use my Utah CCW permit.
As a sidenote: On the way home at one of the many checkpoints we saw a coyote pup right next to the road. It came within about 4-5 feet of the car. We were stopped and I whistled for it to come closer so I could nab it but it just ran into the darkness of the desert. Too bad for me, I could have had a coyote as a new dog.

Yesterday, we went to lunch at The Cheese Shop downtown. It was great! I ordered the Italian grilled cheese sandwich and Lee got the Greek grilled cheese. We were very impressed and recommend this place to anyone. However, as a warning, this place closes at 4pm everyday!
